Rick Walker

After spending 12 years of his life falsely accused of murder in prison, Rick Walker was finally freed as irrefutably innocent and was reunited with his mother, Myrtle Walker – who is a councilwoman and former Mayor of East Palo Alto.  Despite losing his father who died heartbroken at the injustice against his son and missing the critical growth years of his young son, Walker chose the extraordinary path of forgiveness.

“It might seem strange to people, but I’m not a bitter man.  Part of the Bible is about forgiveness.  What am I supposed to do – tear that page out?” Rick was awarded the 2003 Hero of Forgiveness award which honors those who have chosen forgiveness despite experiences that normally provoke anger and hate.
